Abe + Sebastian's Ice Cream

Yesterday BF and I went to Mall of Asia primarily to watch Thor, but before that we had lunch first.

It was past 1:00 PM when we bought the tickets and since we got the 2:30 PM screening, we didn't want to waste much time and just explored the options near the cinemas. It's such a pity that a mall as big as MOA has limited quality restaurants (at least that's what we think).

A few minutes of walking and the moment we saw Abe, we were instantly reminded of their Lamb Adobo. And so we got a table and ordered it right away together with Bamboo Rice and Tamarind Shake.
Lamb Adobo, Php395.00
This is sooo good! It's the second time I had this and I still can't get enough. The meat is so tender it easily comes off the bone.

Lamb is a staple in Mediterranean cuisine so this is a refreshing take on the classic Pinoy dish Adobo. Since lamb has a distinct taste, I guess proper cooking is key because it can either make or break this dish, and Abe successfully pulls it off! It also didn't hurt that it came with loads of garlic without overpowering the taste of lamb. This is truly a winner!
Bamboo Rice, Php220.00
Mountain rice cooked with shrimps, wood ear mushrooms and bamboo shoots steamed in a bamboo shell

The mountain rice is a bit on the glutinous side, but I'm not complaining. :p Plus, this was served in an attention-grabbing manner (think Cyma's Flaming Mangoes and Five Cow's Flaming Alaska).

Sorry, no pictures of the Tamarind Shake (Php115.00). :(

Total bill: Php795.18 (Php730.00 + Php65.18 service charge)

Taste and cost-wise, Abe is worth every single centavo. :)

Since we were still full from our lunch, we decided to reserve the dessert after the movie.

Luckily, we spotted Sebastian's near the cinemas. :D
BF had a Chilly Burger (ice cream cookie sandwich), Php120.00
He chose the Fudge Truffleburger (chocolate chip cookies filled with Vanilla ice cream with a gooey fudge center & rolled in cocoa). This is so good! The cookies are 'sturdy' enough to sandwich the ice cream. It has the right chewiness and goes well with the creamy center. Careful though on the cocoa coating. It falls off and I ended up having cocoa stains on my shirt. :(
As for me? Well I had Once in a Blue Moon. Yep, that's the name alright. :D
This is their limited edition blue cheese ice cream! I know it sounds weird; blue cheese in ice cream? But it's insanely good! (if you like blue cheese that is) I know most people find it pungent and tastes like mold, but it's really a matter of acquired taste.

You have the option to top it with walnuts or Palawan honey, or both. Regular (one topping) costs Php125.00 and Deluxe (two toppings) costs Php135.00. In my case, I chose Palawan honey and it was perfect because the sweetness of the honey balances the unique taste of blue cheese.

There's a lot of flavors to choose from; from classics to novelty flavors such as:
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • Chocoholics Anonymous
  • Vanilla Bean
  • Butter Pecan
  • Mango Sans Rival
  • Macadamia White
  • Peanut Butter Cookies and Creme
  • Simply Strawberries
  • Blueberry Cheesecake
  • Frozen Taho
  • Peanut Butter Cookie Dough
  • White Chocolate Cookies & Creme
  • Malted Milkball (Malteser) - must try this one next!
  • Peppermint Brownie
  • Why Not Donut?
  • Fro-Ya (Frozen Yakult) - and this one too!
some local flavors:
  • Champorado
  • Tibok-Tibok (coconut ice cream with homemade latik)
  • Pinaka-PiƱa

Other items on their menu:

Oh how I wish they have a branch near our house! With their innovative menu and reasonable prices, it's the perfect way to beat the heat this summer!
