Azumi Boutique Hotel Staycation

Natz and I have been cooking something up for weeks now (hint: our biggest trip yet) and while we both get giddy every time ideas come up in our Facebook chats, we needed to tie everything up in well-detailed plan which called for a staycation.

With two international trips cancelled earlier this year, endless medical expenses and tons of work, I grab every opportunity I can to get away from the mundane.

Alabang's newest cool and hip concept hotel

Since both of us live in the south and Azumi Boutique Hotel seem to fit the bill. It is strategically located in Madrigal Business Park and just a stone's throw away from Molito and Alabang Town Center.

Its distinct gunmetal gray with pops of orange exterior will surely catch anyone's attention.

Someday, when I have a place of my own, I want a wall just like this. I'll fill it with travel mementos.

Dove gray wing chairs and sofas, and walls filled with travel mementos will greet you as soon as you step in.

The clean lines and neutral colors maximize the available space and give the lobby an elegant yet non-intimidating feel.

Upon check-in, we were requested for a Php1,000.00 incidental deposit and were asked to sign a waiver for the balcony and rooftop pool. We were then handed the electronic keycard to our room together with the breakfast vouchers and WiFi log-in details.

For guests' security, the electronic keycard is also required to access the lift.

The orange accent pieces prevents the room from looking boring.

We were assigned a Standard Room at the 6th floor - just above the Superior Rooms that has larger balconies with faux grass.

The room was small, but the layout and use of mirrors created the illusion of more space. It was actually perfect for us because we still had enough space to move around.

All rooms are equipped with a kitchenette, big cabinets, flat screen TV, working desk and a couch big enough to be a single bed. :p

We love the bed and fluffy pillows!

Azumi, in Japanese, means 'safe residence' and this philosophy is incorporated in the design by using materials that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

A huge part of the wall uses ECOCARAT tiles which is said to absorb humidity, odor and harmful substances.

The use of LED lights placed behind the headboard and just under the mirrors was brilliant (pun intended). Even if you turn off all the lights and just leave these on, it would be enough to illuminate the whole room since the mirrors amplify the light.

The bathroom is simple, but chic and modern.
They also use natural and organic bath & body products from Leyende which are proudly Philippine-made.

The glass door is actually dual-purpose: as a bathroom door when using the loo and a shower door when using, well, the shower to prevent water from spilling on the bathroom floor. However, when using it as the latter, the cold air from the room tends to get inside the shower because the other half of the glass panel is not from floor to ceiling. (see picture above)

We were also concerned about the use of transparent glass. Unless you're by yourself or staying with your significant other, I don't think you'd appreciate being seen in your birthday suit. :p A bidet would also be nice.

I brought this up with HII, the group that manages the property, and I was informed that they are already addressing these by placing frosted glass in the corner rooms and looking into putting roller blinds/shades for the rest of the other room types. They have also started installing bidets starting with the Deluxe Rooms.

Simple Filipino breakfast of tocino, scrambled eggs, dilis and garlic rice

The buffet breakfast spread during our stay included cereals, breads & spreads (toaster provided), traditional Filipino fare (as pictured above), some fresh fruits, and coffee and fruit juice.

The breakfast was filling and okay, but I feel that it can still be improved. I have also relayed this feedback to the hotel management.

Breakfast is served at Romulo Cafe from 6:00 am - 10:00 am.
Romulo Cafe

What makes dining at Romulo Cafe enjoyable is the ambience. The floor-to-ceiling glass walls allow natural light to filter through; almost as if dining al fresco.

 Function Room
Azumi's rooftop infinity lap pool

Other hotel facilities include a nail spa, which is just adjacent to the lobby; a function room and infinity lap pool - both located at the roof deck.

The infinity lap pool offers a nice view of the south especially at night. I bet it's the closest you can get to a Marina Bay Sands' infinity pool experience this side of the metro :p

I just wish they lined the whole edge with glass walls because I've seen families with kids here during our stay. At the moment, only the ends are secured.

Having just opened last January, it is understandable that some aspects need a little bit of fine-tuning. But with room rates as low as Php3,000.00 net*, I can say that Azumi Boutique Hotel is a good value for money.

  6. I have to agree also, the interiors looks stunning but seems like the rooms are pretty small. I wonder how much the bedroom rates are.
