Product Review: High Sierra Access Backpack
Confession: I've never owned a 'real' backpack. The one I have is more like a day pack or one that you use for school. When I went backpacking in Indochina, I just borrowed my cousin's. But about 98% of the time, I just use my FILA duffel/gym bag whenever I travel and I almost always never check-in baggage.
I was eyeing this specific backpack for months, but wince every time I think about the hefty price tag. I know it's an investment for travelers like me, but I still can't justify plunking down Php9k for a bag!
So I was over the moon when High Sierra Philippines gave me this red Access backpack. I've decided to name her Crimson.

Materials: Diamond Ripstop, Mini-Ripstop, 1000-denier Duralite®
Measuring 20" x 15" x 9.5" and weighing just a little less than 1.5 kg, it perfectly suits my frame. Its 45L capacity is just right for my week-long trips! If you're OC like me, you'll love its multi-compartment design too.
Its back has a VAPEL™ mesh AIRFLOW™ padded shoulder straps with Suspension System, adjustable sternum strap, back panel with tuck-away waist belt and removable media/mobile phone pocket.
Top zipper
I think the main feature of this backpack is what's called the Tech Spot, which is a cushioned zone for your laptop and/or tablet. It can fit a 17" (screen size) laptop.
The top also has a VAPEL™ mesh grab handle and zipper. This can be a double-edged sword, though. While convenient because you can easily get/stow your gadgets without rummaging through your things, it also defeats the purpose of securing your valuables because it's not the bag-type zipper you can lock.

There are two slots which can hold both your laptop and tablet.

There's an easy-access media pocket at the front which can hold various sizes of mobile phones and/or MP3 players. The earphone cords can pass through the tiny slit marked by the earphone icon.
It also has a mesh beverage compartment on the side and front compartment with convenient side access zipper. I decided to put my Towelite here. It's also perfect for storing items that you can grab quickly like a windbreaker/rain poncho. Additionally, there's side compression straps.
One of my favorite bag features is the front multi-pocket organizer with removable key fob just because I bring lots of abubot hehe. I can keep my pen and notepad, wet wipes, mini medicine kit, eye drops, lip gloss, hand and toilet seat sanitizer etc. here.
Lastly, I was jumping for joy when I found out it has a tuck-away rain cover!
I brought Crimson this past weekend on a trip with friends and she did not disappoint. Let's see how she'll fare on her first international trip. :)

I am known in my family to use backpack whenever I travel. I use the regular Fila backpack. It is more like a school backpack. hehe The backpack has been with me for 10 years now but the zipper handles are starting to break one by one. Might consider this one if the price fits my budget.

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new bag! I remember purchasing my deuter daypack for 1.3k. Inutang ko pa yun! Hehe. Its been with me for over 5 years na. Looks like a useful bag indeed! And ditto on the no check in luggage!

ReplyDeletefor our family, every time mag ttravel kami, we always bring an extra two backpack for us to use during city tour, where we put our extra cloths and bottle water. for us naman we use wenger luggage. medyo matagal nadin sa amin yung bag

ReplyDeleteAko naman, I always bring eco bags with me in case na maparami yung mabiling pasalubong hehe Plus, I have a cross-body bag that I use when doing tours.
nice idea, recently we bought two wenger backpacks for my brothers form them to use it for their school, now we always make sure to bring it along with our travel, its very handy instead of carrying a lot of things
