Discovery Country Suites

For our second anniversary, we decided to try something fancy so we booked an overnight stay at this boutique hotel in Tagaytay called Discovery Country Suites.

It has 7 well-appointed themed rooms namely Andalucia (Moorish Spanish countryside; 33sqm.), Ceylon (Old world Sri Lanka; 33sqm), Saint-Tropez (Mediterranean coastline; 37sqm), Siam (Thai; 55sqm), Nara (Japanese; 57sqm), Nantucket (American Cape Cod; 61sqm), and Oxford (England; 72sqm).

It is also home to Restaurant Verbena which serves creations of Chef David Pardo de Ayala - Corporate Chef of the Discovery Leisure Company.

We booked the Nara room - because we are suckers for almost anything Japanese - for the promo rate of Php8,000nett (it is normally Php11,000 + 10% service charge, 12% VAT, and .75% local tax). The package includes:

  • Complimentary country breakfast daily
  • Complimentary wine tasting with cheese and hors d’oeuvres
  • Welcome amenity
  • All rooms include color television with cable programming, telephone and air conditioning, en suite bathroom and safe deposit boxes
  • Make-up and turn down service daily
  • Access to the mini library and movie library, recreation and entertainment
  • Use of the whirlpool
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi access
  • Complimentary newspaper daily
  • Complimentary parking

THE ROOM

The manager personally ushered us to our room. He was carrying a basket with three scents
and asked me to pick one. It's a pity I couldn't remember the scent I chose but I think it was
probably vanilla-based or something. He then proceeded to spray the entire room and even the
bathroom(!) with the scent. Nice touch huh?

Bathroom amenities

I forgot to take a picture but they have a glass-enclosed shower with pebbled floor.

Personal care items by L'Occitane of France
And how cute is it that these products' main ingredient is also Verbena?

THE FOOD

Now remember that part of the package is a complimentary wine & cheese tasting. So by
6:00 PM, we went to the restaurant and was surprised that we were the only people there. The
other guests were probably too lazy to leave their very cozy rooms. ;)

Hors d’oeuvres
Clockwise: mixed nuts, figs, olives, (can't remember the white one), dates

Formaggi!
I love the blue cheese and brie!

After this, we went back to our room then used the whirlpool *teehee*

Dinner was not part of the package but we decided to have it at Verbena as well.

Soup of the Day (I think it was vegetable with scallops)
Verbena's Sampler Plate (BBQ lamb Baby Back Ribs, Grilled Norwegian Salmon w/ Arugula-Mushroom salad), and U.S. Beef Short Ribs "Goulash"

The Goulash and Baby Back were superb! The meat is so tender it falls off the bone.

We were so full and pleased with the dinner. Good thing we didn't order for dessert because
we got a surprise when we went back to the room. We got cookies and milk for bedtime! See,
little things like this is what makes your stay memorable.

THE MORNING AFTER

Unlimited fruits and juices
Breads and spreads

COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST

Verbena Country Plate for him (Smoked Slab Bacon, Pinoy Longganisa, Parmesan-baked Tomato, Garlic Rice, and Three-Eggs, any style)
Country Pancakes for me (Two Fluffy Pancakes, Breakfast Bangers, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon & Maple Syrup)

Overall, our stay was superb! It is worth every single penny. Great food, great service, friendly
and attentive staff.

The Discovery Country Suites is highly recommended for special occasions not just for couple
like us but for families as well. Given a chance, we'll definitely go back. :D
